Kathmandu, Dec 26: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has said the Ministry was at work to expand the scope of social affairs involving senior citizens.
At a programme organized on the occasion of the Fourth National Senior Citizens Day on Thursday, Minister Sudi shared that different programmes were being organized in provinces and local levels to transfer skills of senior citizens to the new generation.
"Various programmes are being implemented to build environment where senior citizens can live happily, respectfully and safely by utilizing the available means and resources", he stated.
The Minister stressed, "It is necessary to further strengthen the culture of respect and protection of senior citizens for the guarantee of future."
According to him, the government had made policy-level arrangement including Senior Citizen Act and Regulation for the special protection of the senior citizens.
Even the senior citizen home with health treatment facility was established and managed senior citizen reconciliation centre with the participation of 753 local levels, stated the Minister.
The government had decided to mark the National Senior Citizens Day on Poush 11 commemorating the day when the Cabinet meeting announced to provide social security allowance to the senior citizens.
