
Kathmandu, March 11: The Consumer Court is coming into operation from March 15 onward. Tabling the notice on the formation of Consumer Court at the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting today, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya informed that the Consumer Court will come into operation from March 15 onwards. The court has been constituted as per the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS. The government had set up consumer courts with jurisdiction to take action and dispose of consumer-related cases in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts. Kathmandu District Court Judge Ram Prasad Sharma has been appointed the chairperson of the consumer court. Similarly, Gehendra Raj Regmi, a gazetted second-class officer of the Justice Group, and Ananda Raj Pokharel, a gazetted second-class officer of the General Administration Group, have been appointed as members. Similarly, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung presented a proposal to send the Mass Communication Council Bill, 2081 BS, originated in the National Assembly, to the concerned committee for clause-wise discussion. The bill has been brought with a new legal provision for the management and regulation of radio, television, online, digital or electronic equipment, printing press or other media. "Media Council will be established as an autonomous regulatory body for the development of clean, dignified and accountable journalism", the bill states. The organization will be a self-governing and organized institution with continuous succession. In today's meeting, Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri presented a proposal seeking discussion in the House on the Montreal Protocol Kigali Amendment. Responding to the questions raised during the discussion on the proposal, Minister Shahi accepted inputs received from the parliament and pledged to implement it effectively. He said that implementing the Kigali Amendment of the Montreal Protocol would make it easier for Nepal to manage environmental issues while minimizing the effects of climate change. Today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) unanimously approved the proposal to endorse the Montreal Protocol Kigali Amendment. The next meeting of the House of Representatives will be held at 11 am on March 12 (Wednesday).
