Kathmandu, March 17: The secretariat meeting of the CPN (UML) held on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen democracy system while reviewing a decade long period of constitution's implementation. UML's Assistant Secretary General Pradip Gyawali said that the meeting has decided to remain firm to the Constitution of Nepal and the achievements like federal democratic republic, inclusive system and social justice institutionalized by this constitution. "We are committed to effective implementation of this constitution, assurance of political stability, effective public service delivery, economic development and the path to reforms," leader Gyawali told the media after the meeting. The UML has stated that its serious attention was drawn to the anti-republic and anti-constitutional activities taking place in the recent times. Likewise, the UML has concluded that any attempt to subvert the people's verdict and taking the country's political course to the regressive track could not be achieved at any cost. "The democratic republic system is the result of the Nepali people's seven-decade-long struggle. The federal democratic republic was established through the historic Constituent Assembly by concluding that the monarchy and democracy cannot go together since the monarchy turned totalitarian and repeatedly snatched the people's rights by going against the consensus made in during the people's movements in the past," according to the resolution passed by the UML secretariat meeting. The UML has observed that major achievements have been obtained in physical infrastructure, social sector, people's livelihood, international relations and other areas in a short span of time of establishment of republic system in the country. UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the meeting and briefed the leaders about the contemporary political issues and the government's performance.
