Kathmandu, May 18: The Legislation Management Committee of the National Assembly (NA) has made onsite visits to four provinces to access the implementation part of child participation provisions of the Act Relating to Children, 2075. As shared in today's meeting of the Committee, the Committee members visited and interacted with the thematic committees, province government officials, local government representatives, stakeholders and children in Koshi, Madhes, Lumbini and Karnali provinces The Committee members stated that some of the schools were facing shortage of clean drinking water and the schools were not fenced while child marriage was still prevalent at some cases with the participation of people's representatives and families. Likewise, the Committee has identified that the children with multiple disabilities were having hardships in their studies and the children born after the sexual violence had difficulties to get their birth registration. In Madhes Province, in particular, the parents of the girls were worried about the issues of dowry rather that their daughters' education. The study report stated that protection of parentless children was overlooked from their relatives and some of the children, who are staying in children's homes for failing to acquire birth registration, were obliged to come to the streets. Furthermore, it stated that the children were at risk due to domestic violence and children-friendly toilets, sanitary pads for the girls, regular health checkup, improvement of the children's home, psychosocial counselling and other services were deemed necessary. The Committee has also stated that the girls outnumber the boys in some of the community schools and municipal child rights committee were also formed. ---
